The South West Wales Lion’s Lair final took place recently at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea.
A collaborative event organised by Gower College Swansea, Coleg Sir Gar, Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan University, the competition is based on the popular TV show Dragon's Den and sees students pitching their business ideas to a panel of judges.
Students Suyamba Kumaresan, Jordan Allan and Tyler George Maddick did a fantastic job on the day, with Jordan being named a runner-up.
Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle worked closely with the finalists with extra support from the college's student enterprise interns and last year’s winner, Joseph Horton.
“Joseph has been fantastic mentoring the finalists and sharing his experience and enthusiasm," says Lucy. "He paid a successful visit to Coleg Sir Gar to judge their internal final, which has resulted in a superb collaboration between the two colleges."
"Entering the Lion's Lair competition last year changed the way I think about my business," adds Joshua. "The prize money was a great help and allowed me to finish constructing my studio in a much smaller time frame than I'd originally planned. Since winning the competition I've continued to work in the Swansea area, most recently I've provided composition and recording services for a stage production at the Taliesin Theatre as well as preparing my debut EP 'Declaration' for release."
