Gower College Swansea hosted a Girls into Engineering Day on 9 July 2014 which was attended by pupils from local secondary schools. Organised by EESW (Engineering Education Scheme Wales), this type of event is designed to encourage girls to take an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects so that they consider careers in related areas, particularly engineering.
Activities were designed to develop team building and problem-solving with tasters in engineering, electrical and digital technology and plumbing. An enterprise session included role model presentations to encourage girls to look at careers which they might not otherwise have considered.
Excellent feedback was received from the girls on each of the sessions and pupils from Cwrt Sart Comprehensive School are pictured enjoying one of the activities.
