Big Ideas' new role model Mark Llewellyn Evans visited Gower College Swansea recently as part of the Welsh Government’s initiative to give inspirational advice to A Level Music students.

The visit was organised by the college's Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle, who said, “It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear a realistic yet inspiring account of a singer’s life in the film and music industry.”

Mark is one of the UK's most exciting classical cross-over performers, appearing regularly on opera stages and concert platforms across the UK, Europe, the Far East and the USA.

Mark is very much in demand whether performing for a 2,000 strong opera audience, singing to 75,000 fans before international rugby at the Wales Millennium Stadium with Katherine Jenkins, delivering an oratorio in an intimate venue or broadcasting on the BBC. In his movie debut, in Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, Mark played Don Giovanni alongside Robert Downy Jr. and Jude Law.

A special performance of Tell My Father with the Band of the Royal Welsh Guards became the #1 single in the UK and benefitted the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal.

Mark has recently been appointed as a Big Ideas role model and is looking forward to mentoring young people in schools and colleges in the near future.

Music lecturer Leigh Phillips was delighted with the session. "Mark had a wonderful rapport with the students and gave terrific advice on how you can be successful in the industry," he said. "The feedback was tremendous and we would like to invite Mark back in September for the new students.”
