Style savvy students at Gower College Swansea are kicking the New Year off with a special catwalk show on 22 January.
The students, who are taking Health and Social Care and Childcare courses at the Tycoch campus, will stage a fashion show featuring customised charity shop finds.
Stalls will sell a selection of homemade crafts, candy, vintage candles and handmade corsages. In addition there will be a raffle, DJ and non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’ on offer.
“This event will be used as evidence for the students’ Welsh Baccalaureate qualification, demonstrating team enterprise and sustainability,” says lecturer Kelly Nedin. “It has been great fun to organise and has also allowed them to develop their problem solving and communication skills.”
Students were awarded funding from the Money for Life Challenge for this project and were allocated £10 per group to spend at local charity shops.
“Everyone wants to look their best but it can be difficult to stretch your budget to meet the latest trends,” adds Kelly. “Hopefully this event will make everyone think differently and more creatively about their buying habits. The students will be handing out booklets on how to save money when shopping for fashion and makeup.”
There will be three catwalk showings at 10.30am, 12pm and 1pm.
