Two Gower College Swansea A Level Music students have been successful in the Dylan Thomas Schools Awards for Musical Composition.  Tom Olsen and James McBeth were awarded 1st and 2nd prizes, respectively, and are pictured with Roger Maidment, Dean of Performance at the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David, who commented:  “Trinity Saint David organises international competitions each year to encourage and recognise young talent in the creative arts.  As we are marking the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas it was appropriate that this musical composition award required entrants to write a piece for solo violin and piano inspired by ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’.

Tom, who plays the saxophone, and James, who is a cellist, are studying composition as part of their A Level Music course at the college.  As part of his prize, Tom's composition was played at the Vice Chancellor's Christmas concert.
